Suruga Bank Cup

The Suruga Bank Cup is an official international football tournament between the champions of the J League Cup and the Copa Sudamericana of the previous last year.

It is organized by the Japan Football Association and the South American Football Confederation, institutions which formalized this agreement in order to compete annually.

The latest editions (2012 and 2013), were won by the Japanese, a rising figure in the context of world football.

It is held in Japan in the stadium of the J League champion.

It emerged as a link between CONMEBOL and the JFA in 2008, when the inaugural tournament was held between Gamba Osaka and Arsenal de Sarandi, the latter being the first champion.

CONMEBOL and the JFA maintain close relations. The ongoing partnership continues and the Suruga Cup is an example of the bond between the two organizations.
