León of México beat up Emelec of Ecuador 3-0 on Wednesday night in Group 7 play at the Copa Libertadores. The match was played at the Nou Camp stadium in the city of León.
Uruguayan Matías Britos, 20 minutes, José Juan Vazquez, 81, and Carlos Pena, 86, scored the goals for the Mexican team that now has 7 points and the group lead ahead of Emelec who is second with 6 points.
León and Emelec offered an intense game in the first half. The ‘Fiera‘ were more insistent but did squander several advances only capitalizing on one.
Emelec tried to take every opportunity to attack and even thought they had scored but the goal was negated by a dubious offside.
Britos put León ahead in the 20th minute with a precise header courtesy of a precise center from Edwin Hernandez.
León kept up the attack and found their second goal through Vasquez from the penalty spot on a hand-ball in the box called on Gabriel Achilier.
The coup de grace came moments later thanks to ‘Gullit‘ Peña who made it 3-0.
«We were not satisfied with a 1-0 lead. At all times the team looks to score,» said Britos at the end of the game.
