Argentine Javier Mascherano is confident of a debut win against defending champions Chile in the opening of Group D of the Copa America Centenario.
"I know that we can get a win," he said in remarks published Monday in the sports daily Olé.
The question is whether his teammate at FC Barcelona, Lionel Messi, will be in the starting lineup after suffering bruised ribs during a friendly against Honduras (1-0) ten days ago.
"He will play when he is well, but if he doesn't play it will be because he can't and is in a lot of pain. It is very difficult to get Leo out of a game, he can endure a lot of pain," said Mascherano.
The footballer, who turns 32 on Wednesday and will play his fifth Copa America with Argentina, admits the weight of 23 years without titles.
